MLK Center & WADK ON air tel-a-thon

1540 WADK is teaming up with the, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, to help brighten the holidays of families in need. Tune in all morning to WADK on Wednesday, December 4th for our on air tel-a-thon to help gather gifts for those struggling and most vulnerable members of our community. We encourage you to call 1-401-846-1028 and pledge your support in the form of food and toy donations on December 4th. You can deliver or mail donations to the MLK center or drop them off at the WADK studios. Here is a list of some suggested food items: • Canned yams • Canned gravy (we try to avoid glass) • Stuffing mix • Peanut butter • Jam/Jelly • Soups • Canned vegetables • Tuna, and other shelf-stable proteins (Vienna sausages, SPAM, canned chicken, canned ham, hash, stews, canned salmon, canned sardines, etc) • Cake/Muffin mixes • Spaghetti Sauce • For clients with special diets: Low/No salt, Gluten-free and Sugar-free items • Local supermarket (Stop & Shop or Shaw’s ) gift cards in $10 increments are particularly welcome MLK’s Food Pantry clients choose their own foods from the Pantry and the center wishes to extend this empowerment of choice to the families who enroll in their Christmas Toy program. This will allow their client families’ choice when picking toys for their children rather than be given an assortment of gifts that might not be appropriate for their family. Because of this new change, the MLK Center is asking that all toy donations be delivered by December 6th.
